SALES, MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION TIPS FOR AUTHORS

SALES, MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION TIPS FOR AUTHORS

1. Business: Though writing is a passion understand that it is also a business. Therefore every author should have a business mind.
2. Quality work: Never rush to release a book without due care on issues of quality. People judge your work. When the books are out make sure you store them well to maintain the kind of quality needed.
3. Pricing: You must understand that your pricing model can make your book not to be bought. Sometimes it is not a matter of the number of pages but the dynamics of content, volumes and pace of sales.
4. Promises vs Reality: There are people who will promise to buy your product before publishing. The reality is that not all these people will buy your book(s). Do not be despaired.
5. Volume of sales: Consider to push volumes rather than boast that the books were sold when only 50 were sold. Why stock those heaps of books. Push them.
6. Promotions: It is good to do promotions for your book but it is not economic to dish out ‘all’ your books for free in the name of promotion.
7. Excerpts: Some normal use this as a marketing tool. They post excerpt from the book so that people have a picture of what the book is all about. However be careful of reposting the whole book as there will be no need to buy the book as we can just get it from the posts.
8. Multi dimensional approach: Never rely on one method of marketing. Explore the unexplored. You may also need to develop eBooks and maximize modern technology.
9. Patience: Most authors are not patient enough even from the release of the book. They want their book on the market but you have to learn patience. Sometime the sales do not go by as anticipated. Be patient enough.
10. Saving: The book project should come a point when it sustains itself. Therefore do not use all the money from the project. Save save save.
