SUCCESS THROUGH KNOWING YOURSELF

SUCCESS THROUGH KNOWING YOURSELF

BY JOHN MUSEREDZO

I have seen that many people are not aware of themselves. They just live anyhow. For a person to be successful he or she needs to know himself or herself. We must take inventory of ourselves. Many a times, we can’t even tell people about the self in us. Self-knowledge is paramount in our journey to success. Below are some areas one needs to be aware of oneself as far as success is concerned.

Critical Areas

·         Identity: Who are you? Where are you coming from? Where are you going? Where do you belong?
·         Vision and Purpose: What is your vision? Why are you on earth? Are you living or just existing?
·         SWOFF analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Fears, Faith): Do you know your strengths, weaknesses and fears? Have you developed your faith level to overcome circumstances?
·         Gifts and Talents: What is your area of gifting? What are your talents? These can be a turning point in your life. The day I discovered the teacher in me that’s the day my life had a turning point.
·         Friends: Someone said, ‘Show me your friends and I will show you your future. Friends can break or make you. Check your inner circle today.
·         The God Connection: We must be connected to God. He is the one with our Master Plan for life.

Important But Overlooked Areas

Sizes: This includes all about clothing sizes including bras, suits, pants skirts etc. It also includes your height and weight. At one time I was very embarrassed when one believer wanted to buy a suit for me. I could not give the size offhand. To me it was not necessary as long it fits. However, from that lesson I now know. Some don’t wear clothes but just throw clothes on their bodies. This is because they wear clothes which are not their size, the reason being they don’t the sizes. Grooming will be meaningless if we are not aware of the size component.
Preferences: This includes foods, colors, clothes etc. Some don’t know the food they like and they tend to eat anything which comes by their mouth as long it is food. Some young men had hard times on their weddings because they are ‘color blind’ and didn’t know their preferences.
Hobbies: Hobbies are very important because some have turned them into business. Also it’s a moment of refreshing. It is dangerous to live without knowing. I started writing as a hobby but now this hobby is transforming individuals, nations and generations.
Memorable Days: Memorable days are events which mean something in your life, mostly historical. These days brings fresh thoughts and lessons in ones life. However, I prefer positive memorable days where one can draw lessons from not those which kill one’s spirit. On memorable days one needs also to know and remember one’s birthday. It is pathetic that this generation has become so busy and value other days other that one’s own birthday. Some don’t even remember or ‘know’ the day they were born.
Personal Information: These include Bank Accounts, Identity Numbers, Registration Numbers, Vehicle Number Plates, License numbers, Serial Numbers etc. They seem not very important but one day you will learn the hard way when life calls for these and you are not ready.

I hope this presentation has become an eye opener. Make an effort to know yourself. Don’t live your life to chance. Success can be predicted if your know yourself. It’s you who must know yourself first before any other person.
