DEVELOPING YOUR CHRISTIANITY BY DOING GOOD
And let us not be weary in doing good: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not, As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.~Ga:6:9-10
Christianity is meaningless if our salvation doesn’t reflect the goodness of God. To be good and doing good is actually part of the fruit of the Spirit. As Christians, we should continue doing good regardless of circumstances. We should find an opportunity to manifest the goodness in us by doing good. I have seen many Christians who start on fire doing good but suddenly stop. This presentation will revive many Christians to revive the good things they were doing.
Whom Do We Do Good To?
• Yourself: Many people sin and they continue to do bad things to themselves. The Bible says everyone who commits adultery sins against his own self.
• Strangers: Mt 25:35, 38, 43; 1 Tim 5:10
• Those of the household of faith : This is good works to Christians or believers in Jesus Christ (3 John1:15, Gal 6:10)
• Family: 1 Tim 5:8
• All men: Gal 6:10
• Community ~ Like Tabitha (Acts 9:36)
Why people stop doing good?
Many people become weary and stop doing good because of various reasons;
• Expecting to be thanked or recognised: Many people do good to others either in church or the community with an expectation to be thanked. Some do good to get a promotion or to be recognise for the work they are doing. When that doesn’t happen they withdraw their services of doing good. As such we should do good no matter we are being thanked or not. The service is not as unto men.
• Expecting others to join you: There are times we do good and expect other to join us in the good works. However, we should understand that sometimes we don’t all see the way you see. In fact, God could have raised you to cover the gap which is there. Do the good.
• Frustrations or disappointment: As we do good there could be challenges along the way. Because of these, many have been disappointed and stop what they were doing.
• Discouragement from others: Doing good always face opposition and one of these is discouragement. One of the critical source of discouragements is mainly from peers, associates and friends. Do not become weary.
• Expected things to change as they do good: Many people have done good as an exchange of change in their lives through God’s intervention. It is strange that sometime God appears silent. However, there is a Kairos or God appointed time. Wait for God.
How Do We Do Good?
By our actions
• Spiritually: we do good as we pray for others and minister to others by the gifts God has bestowed to us (Mark 3:3-4). We also do good as we preach to others and encourage others in the Word. We must also stand with those who need spiritual revival (Gal 6:1)
• Physically and materially: We do good by doing good works (Mt 5:16) and as we visit others and also extend our hands to them especially in their times of need. (1 Cor 16:1-2)
• Emotionally: We do good when we stand with the grieved, the bereaved, the emotionally wounded, the weak, those burdened etc. These need us. (Gal 6:2) We must do good in our speech (Eph 4:29).
Why Do We Do Good?
• Jesus did good (Acts 10:38)
• Reaping in due season (Gal 6:7,9
• Meeting the needs of the one you do good to (1 Cor 16:1-2)
• It develops your Christianity
• We are remembered by the good we do
• We overcome evil (Rom 12:12)
• We were ordained for such (Ep 2:10)
• We receive from the Lord (Eph 6:8)
• We become example to others (Titus 2:7)
• We minister to Jesus and entertain angels as we do so (Mt 25:44, Heb 13:2)
How to maximize your doing good
• Allow others to provoke you in doing good (Heb 10:24)
• Do everything in the Name of Jesus and as unto the Lord (Col 3:17,23)
• Manifest the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22)
• Faith in and obedience to the Word of God (Phil 1:16)
• Purge yourself from evil (2 Tim 2:21)
Today rise up and pick the good you were doing. You have been ordained for doing good.
