WISDOM FOR HEALING WOUNDS OF LIFE

WISDOM FOR HEALING WOUNDS OF LIFE

'For I will restore you to health, And I will heal you of your wounds,' declares the LORD, 'Because they have called you an outcast, saying: "It is Zion; no one cares for her." ~           Jer 30:17

In life, people can encounter wounds deep inside them because various issues:

Sources of wounds in life

·         Challenges of life
o    testimony
o   Marriage, workplace, business
o   Family
·         Words spoken by family, church and work mates
o   Words pierce and penetrate more powerfully than anything because they touch the heart.
o   Words can bring offenses: offenses are sure to come
·         Abuse by family members esp your close ones
·         Clashes at church or work or family

A wounded believer is not an effective believer. A wounded believer is difficult to win. (Prov 18:19) We are an army of God and when the army is wounded there is defeat of that army. The challenge is that the church wants to win when it has wounded soldiers. Most men pretend that they are not wounded because we were groomed to say MEN don’t cry.

Types of those wounded
  • People who think are wounded
  • Those who pretend
  • Genuinely wounded
  • Those wounded but deny

Signs That You are Wounded
·         Hard to be loved no matter how people try their best
·         Feelings of hostility (insults, harsh words)  towards
o   God
o   Others who even didn’t hurt you
o   Self: Self-hate~ this happened because of what I am and or what I did.
·         Overly  sensitive and easily frustrated: Egg-kind of believers
o   Defensive attitude and trying to justify oneself
o   Critical and criticizing everything and everyone
o   Arguments
·         Withdrawal symptoms:
o   One builds a wall around to avoid further offences
o   Isolation: me and my God
o   Leaving God’s work and no longer available, changing churches
o   Suspicion about everything and everyone
·         Retaliation: fixing the offender or where the wound came from

Dangers of keeping wounds
·         Blocks blessings of God
·    Pass on the effects of wounds (contagious): You want others to feel what you feel and contaminate them. Another challenge is that you can become a gossiper
·         Lose identity because of the concentration on the wound than the personality of who you are. This is manifested in inferiority complex.
·         Build a wall so that you avoid to be wounded again.
·         You think everyone is your offender
·         Kills your spiritual life and you can backslide (testimony)
·         Prevents you to move forward
·         Causes diseases e.g depression, stress, HBP
·         Relationships are blocked: separation, disagreements, betrayals,
o   Loves grow cold
o   Accusations and blame attitude.
·         Death

What to Do For Healing The Wounds

·         Pray for a clean Ps 51:10
·         Admit that I am wounded and seek help
·         Let it go~ what do you lose? Sometimes we don’t want to let it go.
·         Forgiveness of the offender and yourself. It is hard especially when someone has wounded us (Mt 6:14-15)
·         Emotional Support and counselling – talk to someone. Don’t pretend that you are strong enough to keep the wound (Prov 12:15)
·         Desire peace with all men (Heb 12:14, Rom 12:18)
·         Make lessons from the phase of the wounds
·         Cast all your cares/burdens to Him (1 Pet 5:7)
