WHEN POWER OVERRIDES LEADERSHIP

WHEN POWER OVERRIDES LEADERSHIP

In organizations, leaders start very well. They have passion for their organization and in serving people they lead. People look up to them. They are celebrated as the hero-figure. However as time goes by many leaders no longer have that leadership steam they started with. This is the time when power overrides the leader in them.

In your leadership if the following now happens, power has overridden your leadership:
1. Your leadership no longer protects the powerless but protects the powerful.
2. Your leadership twists laws and policies to your advantage at the expense of the followers.
3. Your leadership abuses and misuses the system for self gratification and ignores the suffering of your followers.
4. Your leadership no longer has conscience and power is no longer used for the common good.
5. Your leadership power is no longer for achievement of organizational goals but full of fear, intimidation, threats and dictatorial and monster tendencies.
6. Your leadership hand no longer has a helping dimension but a hurting and haunting phenomenon.
7. Your leadership has turned from triumph to terror and tribulations.
8. Your leadership is no longer about the organization but it has become more of you and you only: there are tendencies of self-centeredness and self-promotion.
9. Your leadership no longer promotes other leaders but sees every potential leader as a threat.
10. Your leadership becomes the center of power, forgetting the Ultimate power of God.
Today check your leadership scale and evaluate yourself. Leadership goes beyond you. Leadership scales higher than you.

Power is a tool which should be rightfully managed by leadership. If it is given freelance it has potential to kill the follower, the leader and the organization.
